Summer Cocktails

Next up in the Cocktail Test Lab, I'm in charge of making the cocktails for my friend's Mad Men Cocktail Party. I see several nights of heavy duty research in the Cocktail Test Lab to get the perfect 1960s era cocktails right. Several trips to BevMo are in my future too, no doubt.

OK, So I never did get the Pink Sangria right. We'll try again in Summer 2011...

Mango-jito!!

The Mango-jito (Mango Mojito) is pretty straightforward:

1/2 lime, chopped

6 mint leaves
1/4 - 1/2 cup of mango, diced
1/2 Tbl. simple syrup
1/4 cup Mango rum
2 handfulls of ice

In the shaker, combine lime, mint, mangoes and syrup. Muddle. Add rum and ice; shake and pour into a glass. Enjoy.

Pink Sangria Results

Pink Sangria turned out too sour. Needs less grapefruit. Or more sugar. Or both. I'll get back to it, but for the moment I'm in a turf war with the local pigeons, and the next cocktail in the lab is a mango mojito (mangito? I'll work on it...). I'll get back to you.

Pink Sangria

I've made great red sangria and white sangria, and the next step was clearly the pink - kinda making it up as I go along since I don't have a recipe. Today I tried 1 sliced grapefruit, 1 sliced lemon, 3 red plums, 2 white peaches, a bottle of California Rosé and 3 Tbl. of watermelon rum. Will let you know the results. Once this is perfected, I plan to tackle Mango Mojitos and a Perfect Martini in the Cocktail Test Lab next.
